KPop Demon Hunters (2025) – Chris Appelhans, and Maggie Kang

Okay, I’ll openly admit that it took me a while to get to this one. Sometimes you just have to be in the right mood for something, and this one’s time had finally come.

Sony, when it wants to, can deliver really solid animated films, I’m looking at you Spidey, and now, the KPop Demon Hunters can definitely join that elite group. Filled with smart characters, great music, and a solid story, this one is bound to entertain. It also needs to have at least a sequel if not a spin-off fast. The writers and filmmakers (in the case of Kang it’s the same thing) have created an engaging world.

Huntr/x is a Korean girl group of international renown; they are beyond huge. Their music has infected the world with its pop melodies, dance movies and their personalities. Their fans love them, and they love their fans. And that symbiotic relationship, with the music binding them, is protecting the world from demons who want to feed on the souls of humanity.

The demons, some of whom are created by the shames of their past, are kept off the earthly plane by a magical boundary, created by the music. But they are constantly scheming on ways to break through. And Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop) may have found a way, a demonic boy band, Saja Boys.

Will Huntr/x be able to take them on? Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) have been through countless soundchecks and battles, but Rumi has been keeping a secret from them that may tear them apart as the demons begin to feed.

Filled with solid characters that are wrapped up in an engaging story, not to mention the great music, KPop Demon Hunters is a delight.

From character designs to knowing what to play for comedy and what to play for drama, the entire film is incredibly well put together. Every detail is lovingly created, and shows that everyone involved cared about the production, and that makes for a wonderfully entertaining experience.

I love the music, all of it is wonderfully infectious, there’s some great dialogue, wonderful characters and a world that demands more exploration.

Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s an animated film, I know that sometimes that can dissuade some viewers, but this one is so worth your time, and your attention. The fight sequences, the nods to traditional anime styles, the characters, and did I mention the music?

More please.
