Stargate: Atlantis (2007) – Missing, and The Seer

Carl Binder pens Missing which first aired on 9 November, 2007. Keller (Jewel Staite) and Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) head out on a mission together to see the Teyla’s people, the Athosians, in their new home. Unfortunately, when they arrive they discover the colony is missing.

The primary suspects are a warrior tribe known as the Bola Kai.

And hey look! There’s the iconic Danny Trejo! He plays Omal, the leader of the Bola Kai whose people have captured Keller and Teyla, and may have killed the Athosians. But that may not be what happened.

Sheppard (Joee Flanigan), McKay (David Hewlett) and Ronon (Jason Momoa) set out to rescue them, but it will be up to the two of them to save themselves. And they may also find out what happened to the Athosians while they are at it.

It plays like a bit of a frontier survival story, as the two find themselves fighting to survive and work together. There’s a lot of character work for the two actors, and Staite’s Keller is forced to grow through the course of the narrative.

This is the first time we’ve seen Keller on a mission, and it just reminds me of how much I have always adored Jewel Staite.

There’s also some nice location work that lends a nice level of reality to the struggle the pair find themselves in. It’s a solid ep, but not the best of the season.

And the end of the episode features a nice adjusttment to the narrative, Teyla is pregnant, allowing for Luttrell’s actual pregnancy to feature in the series.

The Seer debuted on 16 November, 2007. It was written by Alan McCullough.

Teyla, working off the information gained in the previous episode, continues her search for her people following their disappearance. She wants to go see Davos (Martin Jarvis), who is a seer, and may be able to guide her to her people.

Arriving on his world, Teyla and the rest of the team meet up with Davos, who has a real ability, but his visions are open to interpretation. Can he truly help?

Things are complicated by the reveal that he is dying. Time is running out.

Sheppard is contacted by the Wraith (Christopher Heyerdahl)he worked with a few episodes back, he offers to help work on the nano virus, which may be malfunctioning. But that goes sideways for the Atlantis expedition, because a hive ship is discovered to be on its way to Atlantis.

And throw in a visit by Woolsey (Robert Picardo) to conduct Carter’s (Amanda Tapping) three month review, and there’s a lot going on in this episode. Can the team keep juggling all the balls, and keep the expedition safe, and both the Wraith and the Replicators at bay?

It’s a solid episode, and sees Keller and Carter both growing into the new show, settling in nicely alongside the established characters. Next time we hit the mid-season finale.
