Stargate: Atlantis (2007) – Travelers, and Tabula Rasa

Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi wrote Travelers which first debuted on 26 October, 2007.

Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) is returning on a mission when he is fired on by a giant starship. Brought on board, he discovers they’ve been living a nomadic existence aboard ship due to the war with the Wraith (sounds a bit like a familiar ragtag fleet as featured in Battlestar Galactica).

He is interrogated by Larrin (Jill Wagner), whom he has a nice banter and chemistry with. She wants him to use his ancient gene to help them activate a control interface on a recovered Atlantean ship. When he activates it, he’s able to temporarily get the upper hand. But Larrin seems to be able to outmaneuver him to keep him in check.

Meanwhile, McKay (David Hewlett), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Lorne (Kavan Smith) are trying to find him. And happily, Sheppard has been able to send a signal out, but unfortunately, it attracts the Wraith instead.

Sheppard is able to destroy the Wraith ship and seize control again. He’s able to get another message off Atlantis, but what if the Wraith show first?

And can Larrin and Sheppard work together to survive or not? Once the Wraith board, the pair have to trust one another, and fight off the invaders until rescue arrives. But will it be Atlantis or Larrin’s fleet?

Before the episode is over will Sheppard be able to forge the beginnings of an alliance? He lets Larrin know that the Wraith are at war with the Replicators, and that in the long run, she and her people could be valuable allies.

As a fun note, these travelers seem to be where Ronon got his blaster from.

I like this one, and I do hope we see Larrin again!

Tabula Rasa first aired on 2 November, 2007 and was written by Alan McCullough.

McKay awakes with no memory and a message from himself to find Teyla (Rachel Luttrell). Apparently, everything began fourteeen hours earlier with one of the expedition, McKay’s sweetie, Dr. Brown (Brenda James) bringing back a strange plant to the city. It passed through quarantine, but something begins affecting the team members.

Beginning with increased memory loss and leading to eventual coma and possibly death, the infection, whatever it is, seems to be spreading. Keller (Jewel Staite) is trying to figure out what is going on. But it’s spreading fast, and McKay may be the only one who can save the day.

Can McKay find Teyla? And what of his warning to himself not to trust anyone? And why aren’t Teyla and Ronon affected?

Carter (Amanda Tapping) is settling into her command position, and I love the new dynamics and cast members.

I like this episode, the way it moves back and forth through the narrative giving us the reveals of what is going on even as McKay works to solve that on his end.

Season four is really shining so far, and I am digging it. I really do love this franchise.
