Hey look! It’s Amy Adams in a fat suit!
Craving first aired on 27 November, 2001 and was written by Micheal Green. Jodi (Adams) is a little overweight. She’s body shamed at school, though both Pete (Sam Jones III) and Chloe (Allison Mack) are there to help defend her.
Clark (Tom Welling) is off getting things ready for Lana’s (Kristin Kreuk) birthday.
She’s determined to lose the weight, and goes on an even stronger than usual diet. Eating only the vegetables from her father’s (Malcolm Stewart) garden. Guess what? They are all kryptonite-infused infused and when they’re blended into a less than appetizing drink, Jodi starts to lose weight immediately!
Unfortunately, she now has a craving for body fat. And her date, Pete may be next in line. Happily Clark will be able to save the day, but what will that mean for Jodi? And of course, with Clark going to save his friend, he misses Lana’s birthday.
But he has a nice way to make it up to her.
Lex (Micheal Rosenbaum) is running a battery of health tests on himself. He hasn’t been sick since the day of the meteor strike that brought Clark to Earth, and caused him to lose all his hair. This is the first episode that we see him start to take an interest in the meteor strike, and the effect it has had on the town.
This episode does have a couple of other firsts, Lex meeting Chloe, the first appearance of Dr. Hamilton (the wonderful Joe Morton).
There’s also a wonderful moment when Martha (Annette O’Toole) is listening to Clark and Lana dance around their feelings.
It’s delightful to see Amy Adams. She’s always been a favorite of mine. She brings a lot to the character, and makes Jodi more sympathetic than some of the freak-of-the-weeks have been to date.

Jitters debuted on 11 December, 2001 and featured a script by Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfeld.
When Jonathan (John Schneider) and Martha go away to Metropolis for the weekend, surprise, surprise, Clark throws a party. It’s interrupted by Earl (Tony Todd!!!) who used to work on the farm, and at LuthorCorp.
He’s ill and claims that he’s been sick since an explosion on level 3 of LuthorCorp, where they were experimenting with, you got it, meteor rocks. In this case, laced in fertilizer.
Officials claim there is no level 3.
So things escalate when Earl shows up at the LuthorCorp plant on the same day Clark and his class are getting a tour, and takes everyone hostage. He wants the truth. Level 3 has the same kind of mystery around it as Area 51, and Earl believes it will save him.
Lex trades himself for the kids, but Clark stays. Lex knows nothing about Level 3, or so he says. But his father, Lionel (welcome back John Glover!)?
Sure it’s a freak-of-the-week episode, but there’s a lot going on character wise, and there’s a push forward for the narrative. There’s trouble with Whitney (Eric Johnson) and Lana, we get a look at the strained relations between Lex and Lionel. And Clark, well, he’s growing into who he will be.
And we get a look at Allison’s dad, The X-Files Pusher, Robert Wisden!
On the downside, the jittering effect on Earl isn’t great. On the upside, there’s a great set piece! I dig this episode.
