Stargate: Atlantis (2006) – The Hive, and Epiphany

The story picks up right where we left off, months ago. The Hive first aired on 6 January, 2006 and was written by Carl Binder.

Sheppard (Joe Flanigan), Teyla (Rachel Luttrell), Ronon (Jason Momoa) and Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks) and his Lost Boys are still being held on the Wraith hiveship. Things are complicated with the arrival of another Hive Ship.

The group is able to escape, but not for long. They are captured again, when trying to free humans being held for food. But these humans, are something different, or at least some of them are… they’re Wraith Worshippers.

Recaptured, Ronon and Teyla go through the sweats as they come down off the enzyme… cold turkey.

Back at Ford’s base, McKay (David Hewlett) has a plan to call in for some help, but his guards are unwilling to aid him. So he may have to take matters into his own hands. He injects himself with the Wraith enzyme and takes on his captors. From there he goes to work to contact Atlantis and head home for help.

Course, he starts to go cold turkey as well, and Beckett (Paul McGillion) works to help him get through it.

Everything works out pretty well. Does Ford survive? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. a very solid episode, considering we had a four month wait between cliffhangers.

All of it is set up for a big explosive conclusion that continues augmenting the characters, furthering the narratives, and expanding the Stargate universe. Much like SG-1, I forgot how much I loved this show.

Epiphany is a bit of a Brigadoon story, or that planet in Interstellar where time went really quick. Written by Brad Wright, from a story he developed with Joe Flanigan, this episode was first broadcast on 13 January, 2006.

Sheppard and his team discover a doorway leading through a ridge. On the other side of it, time seems to pass much quicker. They don’t realize this until after Sheppard gets pulled through the portal.

While McKay and the rest try to figure a way to get Sheppard out, he continues to explore the caverns until he enters the valley on the other side of the ridge, and the civilization that lives there. They are there to meditate on Ascension. Apparently, that’s the only way to leave…

McKay is working desperately, because he knows how much time is passing for Sheppard. Sheppard meanwhile is living a new life. There’s beauty and danger there. Can Sheppard figure out what is going on, and find a way home? How old will he be?

Will McKay figure out a way to save him? And will Sheppard help Teer (Chad Morgan), whom he’s been developing a relationship and feelings for, and the others to ascend? Is the confrontation with the unseen monster part of the key?

And friend of the blog Nicole Munoz shows up!

It’s a quiet sort of story, and works for the most part. It’s a bit of a breather after the big events of the past few episodes.
