Farscape (2003) – A Constellation of Doubt, and Prayer

David Kemper delivers the very entertaining A Constellation of Doubt which first aired on 10 February, 2003.

We get a look at Alien Visitation, hosted by R. Wilson Munroe (Nick Tate!), a docu-show that Moya has intercepted. All while Crichton (Ben Browder) tries to figure who, what or where the Katratzi is. If they can figure out what it is, they can find Aeryn (Claudia Black) who was stolen by the Scarrans. She’s out there somewhere.

There’s a lot of fun to be had from the Alien Visitation show. It gives a look at how the planet has dealt with the reveal of alien life, and how those things may affect humanity. Some of it is clever, some insightful, and some show how close-minded and silly we can be as a species.

The episode also serves as a way to explore all the character arcs in progress, their connections and how much they mean to one another.

So will Crichton get a clue as to what Katratzi is? He will, it remembers something that happened in the unrealized realities… So the wormhole may be able to guide him to the answers he needs.

If he can convince D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe) and Pilot (voiced by Lani John Tupu) to take him there. The journey to recover Aeryn and the race to the end of the series has begun. and oh, Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) is going to be in trouble, because Crichton needs his help. and Crichton offers up wormholes if the villain will help.

Where will it take us? and will me heart be able to take it?

I quite like this episode with the viewpoints it gives us on the characters, and the way we as a species see things.

Prayer was written by Justin Monjo and was broadcast on 17 February, 2003.

As Scorpius and Crichton share a blood pact to sell their deal, Aeryn fights for survival through torture and abuse at the hands of the Scarrans.

And we’re about to see what both Aeryn and Crichton will do for the one they love.

Aeryn is protecting Crichton and and the unborn baby, and Crichton and Scorpius traverse a wormhole seeking out information in the unrealized realities that will lead them to the Katrartzi.

The torture is brutal, and the Scarrans are truly evil. But Aeryn is determined to survive. She’s confident that Crichton will come, but also that she needs to protect him and the baby.

And the lies Aeryn tells to protect Crichton are strong, powerful, and she works to believe them herself so that her torturers will believe it as well. But can she hold out? Hold on?

This is a great episode, but it’s not always an easy watch. Crichton gets what he needs, but there’s a command carrier in the area when they get back, so they running continues as they race to save Aeryn.

A solid, smart, and powerful episode, the writers never pull their punches, and aren’t afraid to put our characters through the wringer. We’re racing to the end now, let’s see how the last four episodes play out.
