Moya has entered into Tormented Space and they are going to find trouble right away in A Prefect Murder. Written by Mark Saraceni, this episode was first broadcast on 9 August, 2002.
They’ve arrived on a rather xenophobic planet divided by clan wars, and Aeryn (Claudia Black) is about to be caught in the middle of it. She’s started having hallucinations, and those are going to be manipulated to make her assassinate a local chieftain (Ivar Kants).
It’s all to pave way for a new Prefect and hey look! It’s Bruce Spence! as the current Prefect.
There’s some great stuff with Chiana (Gigi Edgley) and Sikozu (Raelee Hill). And speaking of Chiana, she’s causing a number of problems, and is clashing with everyone including Moya’s elected captain, D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe).
And there’s an absolutely stunning moment when Aeryn apparently shoots D’Argo and seems completely unfazed by it. It’s almost like she’s gone all Manchurian Candidate.
Crichton (Ben Browder) who is still using Noranti’s (Melissa Jaffer) concoctions to keep his feelings for Aeryn at bay, but when he begins to have hallucinations as well he’s determined to figure out what is going on and the politics are work behind it.
Who is using Aeryn to kill their enemies?
It seems both Aeryn and Crichton have been bitten by insects, but there are no insects on this planet, so how…? The truth is revealed, and our heroes are able to figure things out, and mostly save the day.
It’s fairly entertaining, and all of the main characters get nice moments.
Coup by Clam shows you why you should never share your food. Written by Emily Skopov, it was first broadcast on 16 August, 2002.
Moya is in quarantine over a planet, so the crew decide to share a meal together. A huge serving of alien mollusks is on the menu, but shortly, everyone has a violent reaction to them. Why? Because they’re sharing food with one another. And those that have shared are slowly becoming linked to one another. Crichton and Sikozu, Aeryn and Rygel (voiced by Jonathan Hardy), it keeps going…
They have been intentionally poisoned by the local doctor, Tumii (Barry Otto). He wants to make a profit off of them, by selling them a cure, at a very steep price.
This one is kind of silly, and isn’t as good as it could have been. This one could have been really delightful, but instead it just sort of is. And there are a lot of bodily functions.
A lot.
This one just didn’t really hold my interest or attention, and seems like a bit of a misfire, when it really could have been something.
Oh well, they aren’t all going to be winners, but this series has more winners than not, so I’m not gonna sweat this one. Let’s see what happens next time.
