Stargate SG-1 (2005) – Moebius: Part 1, and Part 2

The season eight finale for Stargate SG-1 is an enjoyable two part romp. Seeing as the Replicators have been taken care of, and the Goa’uld system lords are nicely crippled, however will the season end?

Part 1 of Moebius first aired on 18 March, 2005. The episode features a teleplay by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie from a story by Mallozzi, Mullie, Brad Wright, and Robert C. Cooper.

When Daniel (Michael Shanks) discovers that Catherine Langford has passed, he’s a little upset. But it seems she’s left him her collection, and in it, is evidence that there’s a ZPM out there. Daniel knows that they don’t know where it is now, but they knew where it was.

O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) is slowly pulled on board, as Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel convince him to use the time machine puddlejumper to go back in time. It seems Ra had the ZPM, but didn’t know what it was, and history has shown that no Goa’uld has used one. Teal’c (Christopher Judge) quirks an eyebrow, but he’s on board.

So, the original SG-1 goes back in time… and promptly screws things up. So they come up with a plan to leave a message for their future selves.

But when the 2000s roll around again, things are a lot different. Hammond (Don S. Davis) attempts to recruit O’Neill back into service, and doctors Daniel Jackson and Samantha Carter are brought to a base in Cheyenne Mountain.

Hammond gives them a run down on what they’ve found, a camera with a recording featuring SG-1. They request that people find the puddlejumper, and uncover the stargate if it hasn’t been discovered yet.

When Major Davis (Colin Cunningham) and his mustache help recover the puddlejumper, they are one step to getting there. And who is going to help them out? Dr. Rodney McKay (David Hewlett). They figure out where the gate is, the one in Antarctica, and now they’re ready to start saving the timeline!

This hugely entertaining romp, and less stressful way to end the season (with big changes on the horizon) sees Carter and Daniel being dismissed by Hammond – they just are qualified for the mission – leading us into a To Be Continued.

Moebius: Part 2 aired a week later on 15 March, 2005. Cooper wrote the teleplay this time around, from the story he developed with the rest of the gang, Mullie, Mallozzi, and Wright.

With O’Neill back in the fold, Carter and Daniel lobby to be included in the mission, something that is allowed after they are able to help power up the time machine. This version of O’Neill also has the Ancient gene.

So, they have the gate, the puddlejumper, and now they need to go to Chulak to find Teal’c (Christopher Judge).

And hey! There’s Kawalsky (Jay Acovone)!

But moments after arriving on Chulak they end up captured by Apophis’ (Peter Williams) Jaffa, including Teal’c. We’re almost in Children of the Gods, the series opener, but it’s definitely different. And things are not going to go easy for this new SG-1.

The new team ends up back in time just like our original team. And it seems they are the ones who helped lead the uprising against Ra. And they’ll also be the ones who bury the gate in the first place. Everything works out just as it should and the timeline is restored.

I will say this, I love seeing O’Neill out in the field again. And the episode ends just like Threads, with SG-1 at O’Neill’s cabin, fishing in his pond that now, apparently, has fish in it.
