Farscape (2002) – I-Yensch, You-Yensch, and Into the Lion’s Den: Part 1 – Lambs to the Slaughter

Matt Ford pens I-Yensch, You-Yensch which first aired on 21 January, 2002.

Rygel (voiced by Jonathan Hardy) and D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe) go to broker a deal with Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) and Braca (David Franklin). All part of the plan to get aboard Scorpius’ command carrier, to destroy his wormhole technology. They do so with the warning that the Scarrans are working on their own wormhole tech.

To cement the deal, Braca and D’Argo wear bracelets that share nerve impulses – if Braca is hit, they both feel it, and vice versa. But things get complicated when a couple of blue meanies (one of whom is played by an unrecognizable Ben Mendelsohn!) show up to cause a problem, they are part of an insurance scam.

With everyone now held hostage, they’ll have to figure a way to outsmart the blue meanies, and escape.

On Moya, a meeting with a med ship goes badly, when both Moya and her offspring, Talyn come under attack by Peacekeepers and Talyn destroys the attackers and the med ship. Crais (Lani John Tupu) believes Talyn is a danger to them, and himself.

Pilot (voiced by Tupu) confers with Moya, who is distraught by the idea of Talyn being intentionally shut down. Moya, heartbroken, agrees, but Talyn fires on Moya.

Eventually Talyn relents, knowing he’s not well, and lets Crais, Aeryn (Claudia Black) and Crichton (Ben Browder) aboard to disconnect him until they can restore him.

Through it all, Aeryn and Crichton are on tenterhooks around one another, and it’s heartbreaking to see them both so hurt.

Into the Lion’s Den: Part 1 – Lambs to the Slaughter is the penultimate story of season 3. It’s epic, and broken into two parts, and has so much going on.

Written by Richard Manning, it first aired on 24 January, 2002.

While Moya waits with a shutdown Talyn, the gang climbs aboard transport pod and heads to Scorpius’ command carrier. They’ve negotiated the deal to help Scorpy with the wormhole tech, but it’s all a ploy to gt in there and destroy it.

Crichton and Scorpius have the linking bracelet on. The Peacekeepers are less than thrilled to have our gang on board and are very hostile about it. A deal is reached to repair Talyn and through it all, Scorpius despite agreeing to all of it, is suspicious through it all.

Tensions escalate on all sides, there are betrayals, secrets but there is every chance that the group may get what they want. But when a new Peacekeeper commandant, Grayza (Rebecca Riggs) shows up, things get even worse, for everyone.

She gives the Peacekeepers the okay to turn on Crichton and the rest. But to do it secretly. They don’t have time to go through proper channels.

Some of the effects in this episode are a little iffy, but it doesn’t detract from the story. It ends, of course, on a cliffhanger. Scorpius has plotted where Earth is, and promises to destroy it if Crichton refuses to help him… (or is that a lie?)
