Farscape (2001) – The Choice, and Fractures

After the fun and laughs in the previous episode, Revenging Angel, we go back to the pain and heartache of what happened on Talyn. Crichton (Ben Browder) is dead, Aeryn (Claudia Black) is grieving, and has left the leviathan.

She’s dealing with the loss of Crichton, the conflict with her mother, and all the choices of her life. And… did she just see her father?

The Choice was written by Justin Monjo and debuted on 17 August, 2001.

She sees Crichton everywhere, and recalls their memories together, but for some reason, it’s her father she wants to speak with. Aeryn is hurt and broken in this episode. She’s recovering from her broken heart, something she really hasn’t ever had to deal with before.

And maybe her father isn’t dead, the seer she’s contacted claims to be him, Talyn Lyczac (John Gregg). And who else is there? Xhalax (Linda Cropper), not dead after all. Crais (Lani John Tupu) lied to them all. He says he’s made a deal to keep them safe. But how will that play out?

We know one thing. It isn’t going to go well. This is Farscape after all, and the show is never afraid of kicking characters when they are down.

Aeryn’s got trouble ahead. Talyn Lyczac is a liar, and is working with Xhalax. The episode climaxs in a powerful showdown between Aeryn and Xhalax, and Crais does what he should have done originally.

Aeryn spends a lot of time, angry, drunk, and trying to kill the pain inside herself. Black is wonderful in this episode, and the character has come so far. And poor Aeryn, she’s so hurt, heartbroken, and sad.

That being said, the two Crichton issue has been taken care of. But what happens when Aeryn rejoins the other Crichton on Moya?

Stark (Paul Goodard) leaves Talyn, leaving behind something for Crichton, and the young leviathan may have found Moya…

Fractures was written by series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon, and it was first broadcast on 24 August, 2001.

This is it, the band gets back together. But if the last episode was full of heartbreak, what will this have?

Things get underway when a transport pod arrives, with prisoners aboard, including a Scarran, a Nebari, and a female Hynerian. They escaped from a Peacekeeper base where they were going to be test subjects for a new weapon.

When Talyn arrives shortly after, it’s not the reunion that Crichton was hoping for. He gets news of the death of the other Crichton, and realizes that Aeryn is in mourning. But what does that mean for him?

And Stark’s mask has a message for Crichton. If he can find a moment when he’s not being interrupted. And someone on Moya, just sent a broadcast to the Peacekeepers.

Who among the prisoners is the traitor? And who is being distracted by lust, pleasure, and heartbreak?

It’s a fast-paced tale, revealing how things will change between Aeryn and Crichton, but maybe there’s a way for the two to connect again? (maybe there’s a clue in the message) Will it be soon because we’re racing towards the end of the season!

And they have to stop Scorpius (Wayne Pygram) from using the wormhole information he gleaned from Crichton’s brain. Things are ramping up!!
