A Wing and a Prayer was written by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess, and it debuted on 11 April, 1994.
Shelly (Cynthia Geary) is excited by the arrival of Father McKerry (Tom Mason) who is coming to baptize the baby. Holling (John Cullum) is agnostic but opened minded, and Chris (John Corbett) wants to get in on the ceremony.
Shelly is worried about McKerry and Holling, but the pair seem to enjoy the fun back and forth questioning of faith that they have.
Maggie (Janine Turner) has ordered a plane that she has to build, and Maurice (Barry Corbin) is going to help. What she thought was going to be fun becomes a conflict because Maurice tries to take charge and triple checks all her work. And that is going to have repercussions for both of them.
Can they find a way to work together? Or will Maggie prove that she can do it all on her own? and Joel (Rob Morrow) wants to be on the first flight. But Maggie has earned this all on her own, and deserves to enjoy it as such.
And Ed (Darren E. Burrows) catches a private moment between Ruth-Anne (Peg Phillips) and Walt (Moultrie Patten) and shares it. When Ruth-Anne reveals to Ed, who she says is her best friend, that she’s been seeing Walt, she asks him to keep it quiet. Oops.
He’s going to have to come clean to her at some point. But it won’t be until after he quits working at the shop, and Ruth-Anne has to confront him over it.
I really like this one, there’s a lot of humanity running through it; friendship, trust, and evaluation of the self. It’s so well done.
I Feel the Earth Move was written by Jed Seidel and it was first broadcast on 2 May, 1994.
Ron (Doug Ballard) and Eric (Don McManus) announce their impending marriage. Maurice is less than pleased by the idea – he’s such a homophobe, and it is front and center through the course of the episode. Will that be his defining trait, or will he come around in his way?
Everyone else sees the whole event as a chance to get together and celebrate the love between Don and Eric. Chris is throwing together and curating a playlist as well as officiating (but problems in music choice arise). Holling is gearing up as caterer – but what if he skips on some of the essentials that the couple want?
But Ron and Eric are having some problems, or maybe that is just because the wedding is getting closer and closer. And for Eric, it doesn’t help that his mother (Joyce Van Patten) always seems to take Ron’s side.
With all the things going wrong, is it going to come out okay in the end?
Meanwhile, Maggie is starting to feel earthquakes, as she realizes that Joel really does care about her, and is very romantic when it comes to her. And that is making her sick. Or maybe there’s an actual rational explanation for it.
Joel also makes a huge mistake by peeking inside Marilyn’s (Elaine Miles) journal. And he’ll have tot figure out a way to smooth that over.
It’s a fantastic do!
