Stargate SG-1 (2003/2004) – Evolution: Part 1, and Part 2

The mid-season finale, Evolution: Part 1 first aired on 22 August, 2003. It was written by Damian Kindler from a story by Kindler and Michael Shanks.

There’s a new threat in the Stargate Universe. Teal’c (Christopher Judge) and Bra’tac (Tony Amendola) are stunned when they come across a battlefield strewn with dead Jaffa. A dying survivor warns them that one person did this. And soon the pair come under attack by an armored warrior, that they are eventually able to take down and capture, returning to Stargate Command.

With some help from Jacob (Carmen Argenziano) Daniel (Michael Shanks) and Carter (Amanda Tapping) try to figure out what this strange being is. And it doesn’t bode well for the SGC and their allies.

Jacob provides them some background and the team comes to believe there may be a device located in the Honduras, long hidden in a lost temple. Daniel sets off on an adventure with Dr. Lee (Bill Dow) as his sidekick.

Anubis (David Palffy) is behind it all, and with his new warriors, he could pose a threat to everyone.

While Lee and Daniel are off playing Indiana Jones, O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), the rest of Sg-1 and some allies attempt to capture one of the super-soldiers, but they end up being captured by the Goa’uld.

While SG-1 are able to escape, and gather some valuable intel about the super-soldiers home planet, Lee and Daniel are kidnapped by local baddies.

And that leads into the finale’s To Be Continued. One that won’t be resolved until…

Evolution: Part 2 aired, five months later!!

First broadcast on 9 January, 2004. The script was written by Peter DeLuise, who developed the story with Kindler. He also directed this and the previous episode.

Lee and Shanks are still held in the Honduras and are being tortured and starved for information about the device they have recovered. SG-1 will not only have to rescue their teammates, but continue to search for a way to defeat the super-soldiers.

Knowing their homeworld is definitely a step in the right direction though.

O’Neill is joined on his mission to rescue Daniel by Burke (Enrico Colantoni!). Carter, Jacob, and Teal’c are preparing to go to the super-soldiers’ planet. To discover how Anubis created them, and find a way to stop them all. Unfortunately, the only way to pass through the shield they have on the stargate is by wearing the super-soldier armor.

While SG-1 infiltrates the location, Burke and O’Neill fight to rescue Lee and Daniel, whose kidnappers have already turned on the device and it is changing them.

The stakes are high for all parties in this episode. There are more super-soldiers than they thought and it’s going to take a lot to stop them. O’Neill land Burke settle an age old issue between them as Daniel and Lee are rescued, and the kidnappers are taken care of.

Let’s see where we go in the second half of the season… we do know that they need to find this Lost City pretty soon…
