Season six opens with SG-1 still trying to find a replacement for Daniel (Michael Shanks). Carter (Amanda Tapping) thinks that Jonas Quinn (Corin Nemec) would be a suitable replacement. O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) is against it, as he is also against the suggestion that a Russian officer be assigned to the team. This causes some grief with Chekov (Garry Chalk).
Will O’Neill be able to find a suitable replacement for Daniel? One he wants to work with?
They are brought to Area 51, Jonas included, to check out the new X302, running on a naquadria drive thanks to Quinn, but the real story gets underway with the arrival of Bra’tac (Tony Amendola).
Redemption was written by Robert C. Cooper and it launched the season on 7 June, 2002.
Bra’tac arrives with news that Teal’c’s wife is deathly ill. He arrives too late, and can only mourn his wife, and attempt, once again, to connect with his son, Rya’c (Neil Denis)
Once on Chulac, Teal’c and Bra’tar are unable to gate back to Stargate Command, there’s already an active wormhole, because the SGC is under assault by Anubis (David Palffy). And the gate isn’t shutting down after the thirty-eight minute mark.
To help Carter figure out what is going on with the gate, the Pentagon send in Rodney McKay (David Hewlett).
Can the X302 introduced in the beginning of the episode play a key part in what is to come? Carter and O’Neill head out while Jonas and McKay try to deal with the problem together and Hammond (Don S. Davis) tries to keep things safe.
We race right towards the first To Be Continued of the sixth season as the X302 is unable to use it’s hyperdrive, and Anubis appears before the gate, using stolen Asgard technology to foretell Earth’s doom!

Redemption: Part 2 aired one week later on 14 June, 2002 and was also written by Cooper.
Teal’c and Bra’tac discover the planet that Anubis is launching his attack from, and back on Earth, while Carter and McKay clash over possible solutions. Jonas Quinn comes up with a simple solution, one that may work, save the day, and convince O’Neill that he belongs on SG-1.
But before that happens the stakes are going to get very high as Carter and Rya’c are both injured and the fight to save Earth rages.
Carter realizes that Jonas’ has an idea, it’s so simple, they just have to get the gate off the planet.
Meanwhile Teal’c and company try to deactivate Anubis’ weapon, only to run into some trouble.
But if O’Neill can use the X302 to get the stargate off the planet what will happen to the SGC? The Russians could offer up their gate if they can come to a deal.
It’s a fun, fast-paced plunge into the new season, and let’s see how much a threat Anubis proves himself to be. And you know we’re going to be seeing more of McKay.
The episode ties off some nice narrative threads, sets Jonas up for his new role, and settles the series into its new home. It was with season six that Stargate moved from Showtime to the Sci-Fi channel.
