Chiana (Gigi Edgley) is dealt a personal blow when her brother dies, she knows this because of a personal transmitter she keeps inside her. After Crichton (Ben Browder) blows her off, she skips off Moya, and joins a group of young people on a funeral planet.
Taking the Stone was written by Justin Monjo and first debuted on 31 March, 2000.
While Rygel (voiced by Jonathan Hardy) pillages some of the graves, and pays the price for it, Crichton and Aeryn (Claudia Black) go after Chiana. They discover that the group plays a dangerous game with a sonic net and a plunge into a chasm, a trial called Taking the Stone.
But there’s more going on, none of them live to old age. But Chiana, dealing with her grief, and the fact that no one, especially Crichton, wasn’t there when she needed him, wants to join up with them, and may take the stone, unless Crichton can find a way to reach her.
But this is Farscape and nothing is ever easy. Chiana is going to have to risk everything to realize she has something to live for, and it’s a powerful moment for both her and Crichton.
And speaking of Crichton, there seems to be something going on with him, and he realizes to. He brings it up with Aeryn, but he’s not sure what it is. He just feels… different.
So much character development, all of the characters continue to grow and develop, and it’s amazing to see each of them changing as the series progresses.
Crackers Don’t Matter was also written by Monjo and was first broadcast on 7 April, 2000.
When T’raltixx (Danny Adcock) comes aboard Moya with the promise of being able to give the leviathan a cloaking module, and Chiana arrives with a food supply… of crackers, things get really weird for everyone on board.
Something begins to make the entire crew paranoid. Does it have something to do with the pulsars they are passing near? The light, of course, will have all manner of effect on the crew, and we already know what light will do to Zhaan (Virginia Hey).
Chiana can’t stop eating crackers, D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe) catches Rygel hoarding food and assaults him, and Aeryn and Zhaan seem to be looking for a fight, except for when Zhaan is enjoying her photogasms.
Everyone is getting increasingly paranoid and turning against one another. Is T’raltixx up to something? Is he deliberately exposing the crew of Moya to the pulsar so he can reap the benefits.
And John Crichton, not only is he dealing with the increased paranoia, he’s starting to have visions of Scorpius (Wayne Pygram), is it the pulsars? Is it something more?
And how will the group be able to escape T’raltixx if they can’t work together?
This is a fantastic episode!! It expands the characters, again, and it establishes how so many of the relationships on Moya are often tenuous at best. I love how the characters interact, and it’s very obvious that there is something wrong with Crichton.
