It’s a good thing that the secret Peacekeeper installation, Gamak base is so close, because Aeryn (Claudia Black) is in need of some serious medical assistance following their run-in with the Peacekeepers in the previous episode.
Nerve was written by Richard Manning, and it was first broadcast on 7 January, 2000.
John Crichton (Ben Browder) and Chiana (Gigi Edgley) head to Gamak base to find a suitable cure for Aeryn and lots of things, and continuity come into play. Crichton comes across his PK Tech Girl, Gilina (Alyssa-Jane Cook), and the series pulls out a much bigger bad than Crais (Lani John Tupu), Scorpius (Wayne Pygram).
Gilina is able to get a cure for Aeryn, and it’s nice to see her rekindle her affection for John Crichton even as she realizes that he has developed feelings for Aeryn now. Unfortunately, he’s not able to get away, though he does hide the cure, as Scorpius realizes he’s an imposter, and he now has a new test subject for his Aurora Chair.
Unfortunately, once he learns some of the things in John’s mind, including wormhole information (planted during A Human Reaction), Scorpius will become even more obsessed with Crichton than Crais!
When Crichton is given some time in a cell to recover, we’re introduced to a fellow prisoner, the broken, and slightly crazed, Stark (Paul Goddard).
Things escalate as we reach the climax of the episode; Crichton is barely holding on, so is Aeryn, Chiana and Gilina are trying to figure out a way to save John, Crais arrives at Gammak Base, and Moya, well, Moya just went into labor!
The continuity is piling up thick and fast now, I hope you’re paying attention! Buckle up cause it’s getting wild from here on out.
The Hidden Memory picks up yet where Nerve ended, and trouble is brewing. There’s something wrong with Moya’s baby – this is not a normal pregnancy, and Scorpius is trying to tear John’s mind apart to get the wormhole tech, and that’s just the beginning.
First airing on 14 January, 2000 the episode was written by Justin Monjo.
Crichton is close to following apart, barely holding on, as is revealed in his time with Stark in their shared cell. And maybe, Stark is more than he seems; what’s under that half-mask he wears?
A recovering Aeryn, along with D’Argo (Anthony Simcoe), and Zhaan (Virginia Hey) try to concoct a plan to rescue their captured comrade, while Chiana, Pilot (voiced by Tupu) and Rygel (voiced by Jonathan Hardy) work to guide Moya through her pregnancy. And when the child is born, everyone is stunned by the revelation of what he is.
Giliana does her part as well, she’s planted a false memory that will be triggered when Crichton recalls their kiss. It incriminates Crais. And the only way to prove it’s false is to put Crais in the chair, something he balks at, but may give our heroes enough time to get John out.
Danger abounds everywhere for everyone in this episode. The stakes are high, and it’s going to be a helluva ride. There are emotional decisions that are heartbreaking, and it’s all about paying off the continuity which is going strong.
And at this point, I’m full on addicted to this series again. Next week, we finish up season one!
