O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel (Micheal Shanks) find themselves captured on a world where there is a struggle between religion and science. New Ground was written by Heather E. Ash and first debuted on 18 February, 2000.
The planet is engaged in a philosophical war, which occasionally turns violent over the belief that some hold that they were created by a god (or Goa’uld as Daniel suggests) on this world and the others believe they were brought here from another planet.
While Teal’c (Christopher Judge) escapes, he’s temporarily blinded, but a scientist, Nyan (Richard Ian Cox) who believes the god theory. He’s fascinated by the new possibilities that are before him, realizing that perhaps Teal’c is telling the truth, that their god is a goa’uld, and that they were brought from another world.
But will those in charge listen?
And will SG-1 be able to escape from the vicious Command Rigar (Daryl Shuttleworth)? If he has his way his world will not only keep the gate a secret but will cling to the god theory as well. Ignoring the new ground opening before them.
Eventually Teal’c and Nyan are able to rescue and free SG-1. On their return to Stargate Command, Nyan is offered a place at the SGC. And that’s great for him but what about the terrible things still happening on his homeworld? Will he be able to affect change? Will we ever see this character again?
I appreciate the fact that SG-1 isn’t there to change their world too much, but now some people know the truth. How long will they keep it a secret?

Maternal Instinct sees Bratac (Tony Amendola) arriving at the SGC with countless wounded with word that Chulac was attached by none other than Apophis (Peter Williams).
It seems he is doing everything he can to find the Harcesis. Daniel believes it is located on something or somewhere called Kheb. Bratac has heard of it!
Written by Robert C. Cooper this episode was first broadcast on 25 February, 2000.
Daniel sets off with Bratac, SG-1 and SG-2 in search of the child. They find Kheb, and encounter a strange Monk (Terry Chen). Only Daniel is able to take the spiritual journey that is required of the Monk, but will he be able to succeed in the quest before him?
Through it all, O’Neill’s patience wears thin. He knows the Goa’uld could well be on their way.
As Daniel seems to develop some powerful abilities is it real? a test? Will Daniel be able to reclaim the child or will he realize that the boy is better off where he is? Safe and protected.
So does that wrap up the Harcesis storyline for awhile? Probably, as we’re about to hit the season three finale!!
