Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) drinks the blood of Kali as Apophis (Peter Williams) tortures her with her memories in an attempt to find a way to escape Sokar’s (David Palffy) hell-planet, Netu.
Picking up where the last episode left us, The Devil You Know was written by Robert C. Cooper this episode first debuted on 29 October, 1999.
In fact, almost all of SG-1 are forced to drink the blood of Kali, sorry, Sokar. He uses that and the memory device to torture them, hoping to learn the location of the Tok’ra resistance, and where the child is – the hybrid child that Sha’re gave birth to that has all the knowledge of the Goa’uld.
Apophis tortures Carter with memories of her mother’s death, and interactions with her father, Jacob (Carmen Argenziano), O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) with his dead son, and Daniel (Michael Shanks) with interactions with O’Neill about the Harsesis child.
Through it all, the team tries to find a way to survive, to last as long as they can, clinging to the hope that Teal’c (Christopher Judge) is somewhere nearby in orbit and will help get them out, something they are already working on.
Apophis plans to take over Netu, destroy the Tok’ra and slay Sokar. But Sokar has plans of his own.
Our heroes escape with Martouf (JR Bourne) and Jacob/Selmack at their side. Teal’c is able to intercept the matter stream from Netu to Sokar’s ship. But what of Apophis? And Sokar? Are they still out there?
It’s a great two-parter and rockets along!

Foothold was written by Heather E. Ash and was first broadcast on 5 November, 1999.
SG-1 returns from a futile search for the Harsesis and during their usual check-up with Fraiser (Teryl Rothery) things take a dark turn. It seems while they were away Stargate Command was taken over by an alien race a la body snatchers.
Teal’c and Carter are immune to the attacks because of the naquadah in their blood and they are soon trying to figure out what is going on, and how to stop this alien incursion. Teal’c isn’t able to get out of the SGC, but Sam is and with no other option she calls Maybourne (Tom McBeath).
Unfortunately, he’s already been contacted by Hammond (Don S. Davis) and he’s sent a changed O’Neill and Jackson to bring her back. Maybourne and Carter both witness the actual creatures, even Major Davis (Colin Cunningham) has been changed.
Carter is able to use one of the devices the aliens use to change their appearance and she and Maybourne come up with a plan.
In the SGC, because their alters have been killed, O’Neill and Davis are free to cause some havoc. When they join up with Carter, free Teal’c, they have to revive everyone as quickly as they can, before Maybourne has his forces overrun the SGC.
It’s a fun and playful episode that despite not being comedic feels worlds lighter than the two-parter we just went through on Netu. It’s not quite a romp, but it is really enjoyable, and has some great dialogue. Anderson really does seem to be having the time of his life with this series.
