Jackson (Michael Shanks) seems to be bouncing back pretty quick after the death of his wife last week. He seems to have a connection, and shared attraction between Ke’ra (Megan Leitch) when he and SG-1 arrive on an industrial age planet where there are no children, no old people, and those who live there have no memory of themselves or their culture.
And the name of Linea, the Destroyer of Worlds, may be the one at fault here.
Ke’ra returns to Stargate Command with two other inhabitants, but a number of questions are raised when Fraiser (Teryl Rothery) discovers that Ke’ra and Linea have the exact DNA. Ke’ra is a younger version of the woman they encountered in Prisoners.
She apparently came to the world working on longevity, and slowing the aging process. But made a mistake, somehow triggering a block in everyone’s mind, causing their amnesia. Carter (Amanda Tapping), O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Teal’c (Christopher Judge) and Daniel Jackson then have to wrestle with the moral dilemma of whether to restore her memory if they find a cure.
And they’ll need her help if they want to create a cure. If she creates it, will she find a way to take it? And who will she be if she takes it? Is there a chance for someone new to come out of this, or will Linea resume her murderous ways? Or will Daniel Jackson come up with a way to preserve Ke’ra?
I like the ideas at work in this episode, I don’t think it should have come on the heels of Forever in a Day, they should have waited a few weeks on this one, and maybe let the romance bubble a little more, but overall, a fantastic episode.
Martouf (JR Bourne) of the Tok’ra arrives through the stargate with news about Jacob/Selmack (Carmen Argenziano), he’s been captured by Sokar (who we finally get to see! He’s played by David Palfy) and sent to a planet known as Netu, the Egyptian name for a version of hell.
There may be some clues in help in the memories of the Goa’uld, Jolinar, which Carter carried for a brief time, that may help them. Jolinar was the only one to ever escape Netu, and the torture she underwent there.
How did she get out? And will the memories be enough to get them off Netu, and rescue Jacob, or will they be captured by Netu’s lord, Bynarr (Bob Dawson)?
Jolinar’s Memories was written by Sonny Wareham and Daniel Stashower and debuted on 22 October, 1999.
There’s some good stuff here, and there are moments that expand Carter’s character and her relationship with her father, Jacob, nicely. And then there’s the secret Jolinar kept from Martouf, and a surprise appearance by Apophis (Peter Williams) masquerading as Bynarr’s first prime, which delivers right to a To Be Continued!!!
