Stargate SG-1 (1998) – Secrets, and Bane

While Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) head off to Washington to meet with the President, and track down a leak in Stargate Command, Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) and Teal’c (Christopher Judge) return to Abydos as Daniel agreed to one year after the events of Children of the Gods.

Written by Terry Curtis Fox , Secrets first aired on 21 August, 1998.

Daniel and Teal’c are shocked to discover Daniel’s goa’uld abducted wife, Sha’re (Vaitiare Hirshon), has been returned to her father, Kasuf (Erick Avari). She’s pregnant! From Apophis (Peter Williams)! It seems the goa’uld within her represses itself while she is carrying the child, all to Apophis’ will.

In Washington, we are introduced to Sam’s father, Jacob Carter (Carmen Argenziano), there’s a bit of a strained relationship between the two, but Jacob reveals something to Sam about his health, and O’Neill works on finding the leak through the reporter that came to him (Chris Owens).

Things get troubling on Abydos when Heru’ur (Douglas Arthurs) shows up in search of Sha’re! Oh, and she’s about to deliver. And oh, when that happens the goa’uld inside her will take over again.

Daniel and Teal’c are able to escape with the baby, a boy and see that he’s taken away and kept safe. Carter is left reeling with the news of her dad’s health, and O’Neill’s reporter ends up dead – who killed him?

And Apophis makes an appearance at the end of the episode to remind us and SG-1 that he’s out there. And Daniel is left wondering how much of Sha’re remains as she meets his eye when she departs with Apophis.

Bane puts Teal’c in the firing line, when he is stung by a strange bug on a deserted planet and begins to undergo a horrifying transformation, one that his goa’uld adolescent can’t stave off.

Written by Robert C. Cooper this episode first aired on 25 September, 1998.

SG-1 runs for the gate as an entire swarm of really big bugs descend on them, and back at the SGC, Fraiser (Teryl Rothery) works to find a cure for Teal’c. But things look pretty dire from the off.

Fraiser is joined by Dr. Harlow (Scott Hylands), but things aren’t going to be easy. Teal’c argues for death, and things get complicated when Harlow reveals he’s working with Maybourne (Tom McBeath).

But when Harlow and Maybourne take Teal’c, the transformation kicks into high gear and escapes. Teal’c hopes to run off and die, taking out junior to speed the process along, but the venom within him is changing him too quickly.

While Teal’c wanders, SG-1 comes up with a plan, but it requires venom from the bugs, so while the team travels back to the planet, a young kid, Ally (Colleen Rennison) follows the jaffa, and ends up saving him as well as keeping him alive until the SGC can track him down.

The fate of the planet hanging in the balance, when SG-1 learns the nature of the bugs and their infections, but things will work out well, right? They’re SG-1! And hopefully, Maybourne will get his comeuppance one day.
