While Kumu (Amy Hill) documents a dark part of Hawaiian history, doing interviews with Cade (Martin Martinez) as her cameraman, with survivors of the Japanese internment camps in Hawaii following the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Sab Shimono, the wonderful actor, plays George, and tells his story, something Shimono went through himself. It’s a great story that needs to be shared, and both versions of the series has definitely done their work to support vets, and social causes, and not shy away from the darker corners of history.
Meanwhile, Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins (Perdita Weeks) are working on the case of a missing chef, and recruit Katsumoto (Tim Kang) a confirmed foodie, to go undercover at a high-level restaurant. What they come across is a high-level robbery involving a sleeping gas and a catering company.
Appetite for Danger debuted on 18 October, 2023 and was written by David Slack, and one of the showrunners, Eric Guggenheim.
We see T.C. (Stephen Hill) continuing his recovery and back seat baseball coaching with Rick (Zachary Knighton) and Nicky the Kid (Larry Manetti). And Rick has an idea on how to help his friend get across the room on his support bars. It’s a nice moment, and Cade, George and Kumu get a great emotional bit to tie up the internment story. It’s bittersweet, but amazing nonetheless.
It’s not the strongest story, but there are lots of nice character beats for the cast.

Night Has a Thousand Eyes opens with Magnum and Higgins taking a license renewal test for the private investigator’s license, which Magnum passes, but Higgins doesn’t! And moments later, they are picking up T.C. who is leaving the VA, and finally heading home.
Written by Tera Tolentino this episode was first broadcast on 25 October, 2023.
Rick brings Magnum a case. Justin (Melvin Diggs) was involved in a car accident, and while his friend who was driving didn’t survive, because it was Justin’s car, the police are charging him, going with the assumption that he was driving.
Magnum has five hours to find a witness who removed Justin and his friend from the case before the prosecutor closes out a plea deal (8 years for involuntary manslaughter). Magnum and Rick find themselves paired up trying to track down the witness while Higgins tries to find a way to retake the test.
It’s a fun episode, and as always ends up being bigger than initially thought. There’s a nice car chase which features some nice drone work.
We’re coming up on the end of the series, so let’s see how it all wraps up in the next couple installments. Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD is available now from Paramount Canada, aloha!
