Magnum P.I. (2023) – Hit and Run, and Three Bridges

Jin (Bobby Lee) opens the episode with a ridiculous interpretation of Robin Masters’ new book as the group takes turns visiting with T.C. (Stephen Hill) as he settles into a veteran’s hospital in an attempt to get used to the possibility of being stuck in a wheel chair and paralyzed below the waist for the rest of his life following his surgery. Kumu (Amy Hill) and Shammy (Christopher Thornton) do their best to help him out.

Shammy is encouraging T.C. to push himself, but is he going too far in trying to help? T.C. has a lot of anger and frustration about what has happened to him, but he and Shammy are able to smooth things over as the pair hope for the best in T.C.’s recovery.

Magnum (Jay Hernandez) and Higgins (Perdita Weeks) are contacted by a mysterious client who asks them to find out who ordered a hit on a twelve-year-old girl. The hitman, Xavier (Paul Blackthorne), is hiring them. But Anna (Isla Rose Hall) has gone missing. When they track Anna down, they learn even more about what is going on.

Hit and Run was written by Gene Hong, and first appeared on 4 October, 2023.

Higgins also shares some important information with Magnum, Rick (Zachary Knighton) gets a bit of a flirt with a girl at the marina, Piper (Chelsea Gilligan), but what about Suzy (Betsy Phillips)?

As the episode gets ready to close out, Anna shows up at La Mariana and Rick agrees to a date, because Suzy insists on keeping their romantic lives separate, and T.C. feels something when they test his feet.

Higgins isn’t pregnant, but they finally tell one another they love one another…

Three Bridges sees Piper popping in to continue flirting with Rick. She’s a cutie, and Rick would be an idiot not to follow up on her attention. But maybe this will lead him back to Suzy?

It’s been two weeks since the flirting started, and T.C.’s toe twitched. T.C., in fact, has been avoiding Magnum the entire time, so the private investigator respects his friend’s decision. For now. It seems T.C. is upset by his lack of progress and doesn’t want his friend to see him like this.

In fact, his mother (Judith Scott) is troubled by how T.C. has shut everyone out and shows up on the island and in his hospital room to help him, and maybe help him get over the frustration he has over what has happened, and how he sees himself.

Written by Barbie Kligman, this episode debuted on 11 October, 2023.

Kumu comes to Higgins and Magnum with a friend of hers, Ying (Yan Xi), who lost her life savings to a scammer. The pair dig into the case, which seems much better than what they were doing at the beginning of the episode, repossessing a fish. What they find isn’t just a scam, but an ongoing human trafficking problem, where those being trafficked are forced to run the scam and make money for crime families.

It’s a solid episode and plays out nicely, it’s nice to see Rick and Suzy sort themselves out, as well as seeing T.C. getting some hope about his condition. I don’t know if we’re going to get an arc for the remaining episodes, outside of the Magnum-Higgins romance or if they are just going to be stand-alone stories.

There’s more to come but the end is in sight as I continue exploring Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD available now from Paramount Canada. Aloha.
