Magnum (Jay Hernandez) is stunned to find out Buck Greene (James Remar) is dead and wants an autopsy because he doesn’t believe he killed himself despite the evidence recovered on the body. He is increasingly motivated to figure out what is going on, and what happened to his former CO. T.C. (Stephen Hill) provides some advice, but things are going to get complicated.

Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and Rick (Zachary Knighton) find themselves working together to help one of Rick’s ‘friends.’ Higgins and Rick have a discussion about Magnum’s love life because he knows that Magnum is seeing someone but doesn’t know it’s Higgins. But before they can really delve into that, they end up in some serious trouble. T.C. and Magnum end up working for the baddies to recover a case of premium stolen whiskey with Higgins and Rick’s lives hanging in the balance.

Higgins and Rick aren’t going to let things go easy though, they’re waiting to make their move to escape, even as T.C. and Magnum run down the stolen booze.

Katsumoto (Tim Kang) takes a strange job as he works security for a K-pop superstar, Rae (Rachel Jimin Baeq). As he tries to get a read on the young woman, he also ends up getting knifed by an overzealous ‘fan.’ There’s a fun moment when Katsumoto’s son, Dennis (Lance Lim) gets embarrassed in front of Rae when his ringtone is one of her songs.

All of it is to get Katsumoto on the right path back to HPD. But first he has to do right by Rae, because someone on her security team didn’t turn over the suspect, because they are Korean mob, and so is he, it was all a set-up. And you know Katsumoto is going to do his best to protect Rae, and get evidence to bust her corrupt team.

There’s a lot going on in this episode, and it ends up being a lot of fun.

Magnum, T.C. and Rick have puzzled out a clue Greene left for them, suggesting that the people who killed him are working to exact revenge for a mission they pulled off in Afghanistan. Greene was the only person who knew who was in the unit, and he was waterboarded, dying from a heart attack and broken ribs.

But that is the season arc, the case this episode sees Higgins and Magnum investigating a missing woman who works at a clean energy company. Was it someone at an energy company that doesn’t want some clean energy options on the market, and when Higgins finds the body, missing gets upped to murder.

While Suzy (Betsy Phillips’ first appearance this season) gets a day off from the baby, Rick and Kumu (Amy Hill) take baby Joy to La Mariana, where they will all meet Rick’s younger and wild sister, Ruthie (Abbey May). And when she tells him she’s getting married, Rick is upset to be the last to learn that Ruthie is gay,

We also get a joyous look at T.C. enjoying his ongoing romance with Mahina (Emily Alabi).
