Magnum P.I. (2022) – Dead Man Walking, and Evil Walks Softly

While everyone is practicing for an island tug of war contest to raise money for their favourite charities, Magnum (Jay Hernandez) finds himself hired by a crime boss, Shima (Eijiro Ozaki) to find his kidnapped son.

Magnum refuses, but when he discovers he’s been poisoned and has eight hours to find Shima’s son and the antidote, he has to dig into the case. Gedde Watanabe guest stars as the owner of sushi house which oversaw Magum’s poisoning in Dead Man Walking. Written by Gene Hong, this episode was first broadcast on 4 March, 2022.

Magnum is able to reach out to his friends before his phone is taken, but even as he works the case, symptoms begin to affect his behaviour. Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and Rick (Zachary Knighton) run down leads, while T.C. (Stpehen Hill), Kumu (Amy Hill) and Jin (Bobby Lee) help where and when they can. They also have a call into Katsumoto (Tim Kang).

Can his friends reach him before it’s too late? Will Magnum find Shima’s son? And will Magnum have some inside help when he rumbles an undercover officer?

As things escalate, everyone realizes that Shima’s son has to be recovered because if he’s not, gangs will go to war in Hawaii, and the civilian collateral damage will be disastrous. Magnum is able to figure out who kidnapped Shima’s son while Higgins and Rick go after him, and Jin and T.C. are able to get Magnum the antidote in time. Happy ending all around, including the tug-of-war!

Evil Walks Softly was written by Tera Tolentino and debuted on 11 March, 2022.

Magnum and Higgins are hired by Nora Simmons (Alexie Gilmore) to track down her son, Ryder (Parker Queenan) who is the suspect in a bombing with the plan of convincing him to turn himself into the authorities. Unfortunately, when Katsumoto learns their working the case, he is furious with them, believing they may be protecting Ryder, though he doesn’t really believe that.

Everyone is on the hunt for them, but, of course, it’s Higgins and Magnum who find Ryder, and try to put the clues together to learn what really happened. Ryder was forced into it, but he confesses when the duo contacts Katsumoto. But when HPD interviews Ryder, Katsumoto realizes the boy was forced into this, but doesn’t understand why.

Together, the three of them work on putting a timeline together to track Ryder, and find the real culprit.

The group also have to help T.C. deal with his conscience when he runs into an old love while he, Rick and Kumu help out at the relief site supplying food and water to the rescue workers and survivors. He’s troubled by the whole thing only to be gobsmacked by the fact that she doesn’t even remember him. How will it all play out?

Higgins gets some pressure from a friend to think about Magnum as more than just a business partner!
