Magnum P.I. (2022) – Judge Me Not, and Run, Baby, Run

Rick (Zachary Knighton) is preparing for fatherhood, and the arrival of a restaurant efficiency expert to help increase profits at La Mariana, while Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and Magnum (Jay Hernandez) work on their new case.

Judge Me Not was written by David Slack, and it first aired on 28 January, 2022.

The duo are approached by Judge Rachel Park (Moon Bloodgood). She’d been recently nominated to a seat on the Hawaiian supreme court, but someone is attempting to blackmail her with evidence from her past when she worked as an escort for three months to pay for her schooling. It seems the blackmailer wants her to throw a murder case, or they will release a video from that time.

Can Magnum and Higgins track down the blackmailer and save Park’s career? Will Rick learn how to properly swaddle a baby? It’s just another fun week on the island.

It seems a fixer named Maya (Maya Stojan) is behind the blackmailing. As time begins to run out, Magnum and Higgins will have to risk themselves to keep the Judge safe, and stop the release of the tape, including finding the real murderer and who hired Maya, conveniently the same person.

At La Mariana T.C. (Stephen Hill) and Kumu (Amy Hill) point out that following the efficiency expert’s advice may ruin what makes the tiki bar a unique destination. Happily Kumu has an idea on how to take care of that, have La Mariana declared a historical landmark, something that will definitely help them out financially.

Happy ending for our heroes, and despite the possibility of Maya’s reappearance, I read ahead and found out that it doesn’t happen.

Run, Baby, Run first aired on 25 February, 2022 and was written by David Wolkove.

While T.C. and Katsumoto (Tim Kang) find themselves on an emotional search for Cade’s (Martin Martinez) mother, Magnum is hired to find a bail jumper. The bail bondsman, Melvin is played by the late Patrick Swayze’s brother, Don.

As they begin the hunt for Stella (Veronica Diaz Carranza), Magnum has to recruit Rick to help him, and when they find her, they discover that there is more going on (surprise) than they thought. Stella was being used by a dirty cop, forcing her to be an informant, and also took advantage of her, so she went on the run, pregnant.

And, you just know that in time for the climax it’ll be time to have the baby, which should coincide with the big action shoot-out that Magnum finds himself in while Rick oversees the birth of the baby. Can Lia and the good cops of the HPD get there in time to help them, or will they be on their own?

Higgins and Magnum share a little banter that are definitely hinting at something more being possible. And Lia (Chantal Thuy) makes her first real appearance since the breakup with Magnum.

There’s more next week as I continue to explore more of Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD, available now from Paramount Canada. Aloha!
