While Rick (Zachary Knighton) attempts to figure out what to do about his developing feelings for Suzy (Betsy Phillips) Higgins (Perdita Weeks) gets abducted and it may have something to do with one of Magnum’s (Jay Hernandez) first cases on the island.
Written by David Wolkove, the episode first aired on 19 February, 2021.
Magnum reaches out to everyone, including Katsumoto (Tim Kang) who is trying to spend the day with his son. The group is shocked to learn that to get Higgins back, they will have to break out a prisoner who is being transported, but they keep Katsumoto and Kumu (Amy Hill) out of the loop as they plan to break the law to save Higgins.
And once again not only are they risking their friendship with Katsumoto, they’re risking their lives for their friends. But Higgins isn’t going to just sit around and wait to be rescued, she is former MI6 after all.
The prison break goes well, and they are able to get Elliot Hamler (Bill Sage) out of prison, and arrange to exchange him for Higgins, who is being held by Elliot’s son, Miles (Cameron Radice). But things aren’t going to go smoothly, Higgins may get released, but they take Magnum hostage instead.
Will the group be able to save Magnum? Even if there is no way to track him?
It all works out, and Katsumoto helps out as best as he can because Higgins is his friend as well, and it all smooths out in the end for everyone even as Magnum reflects on his past. He and Higgins are able to reconnect and he’s also able to let Suzy know that Rick is into her…
Just a good friend.

Higgins and Dr. Ethan are having a little getaway together while Magnum takes a case that involves a missing ranger who has returned from his deployment. The Long Way Home was written by Katie Varney from a story by Varney, and showrunners Peter M. Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim. It was first broadcast on 5 March, 2021.
Higgins and Ethan find them wrangled into looking for a missing wedding ring, while Magnum runs down anything he can find on Staff Sergeant Liam Bates (Bryce Johnson). Magnum is troubled to find that on his return Bates got some terrible news that caused him to not return to his family.
He receives word that the person he beat in a card game, which got him an early rotation home, died in a patrol he would have been on. Wracked with survivor’s guilt, Bates walked away to try and deal with it.
Being former servicemen, there’s no one better than Rick, T.C. (Stephen Hill) and Magnum to go out looking for him and bring him home to his family.
We also get to check in on Katsumoto and his son, Dennis (Lance Lim) who are having a hard time connecting and hanging out, there are conflicts in work and school schedules that keep them from spending time together. But Dennis is keeping secrets from his dad, and it examines what kids of cops may be going through with the way the police are seen these days.
There’s more next week as I explore more of Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD, available now from Paramount Canada. Aloha!
