John Krasinski returns for one final season as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and despite being introduced to the character decades ago, and then having a number of actors bring the character to life, Krasinski has become one of my favourite iterations. In fact, I love how Krasinski has settled into the role, something so different from the role of Jim Halpert that most people associate with him.
Now, Paramount Canada has released Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan – The Complete Series on Blu-ray, and all four seasons of the techno-thriller are available in one collection.
Krasinski and a power-house cast bring Tom Clancy’s world to life, as we follow Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst who finds himself pursuing villains across the globe as he gets wrapped up in international politics and terrorist plans.
Spread over eight discs the four seasons, all thirty episodes, are collected in one place, and look fantastic, and I love that theme by Ramin Djawadi. The showrunners, and script writers deliver a series of fast-paced, interwoven stories that introduce us to familiar characters like Wendell Pierce’s Greer, and Abbie Cornish as Cathy Mueller. It also introduces us to Mike November (Michael Kelly) a character created for the series, but feels completely in line with Clancy’s world and creations.

The series looks great, the only downside to the season and complete series releases is the fact that there isn’t much in the way of extras, there are some deleted scenes, but there is a lack of behind-the-scenes and making-of docs and commentaries. Considering Krasinski’s work as both an actor, writer and director, not to mention being the star of the show, it’s rather disappointing that there aren’t any commentaries at all.
But that doesn’t mean it’s not a damned enjoyable show, it really is. I love Krasinski’s performance, and the physicality he brings to the role, and I have loved techno-thrillers from the moment I discovered Jack Ryan, and Tom Clancy when I first read The Hunt for Red October.
The character has lived and thrived through a number of actors playing him, and everyone will have a favourite, but you have to admit, John Krasinski brings Tom Clancy’s character to life in a way we hadn’t seen before, and he had thirty hours of story to make the character his own. I’m sorry to see him leave the character behind, but there’s always the potential for more Tom Clancy-inspired series and films to come.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan – The Complete Series is available on DVD and Blu-ray from Paramount Canada today!
