Rick (Zachary Kingston) is anxious about the tiki bar working out, especially since T.C. (Stephen Hill) helped back him. The pair learn that one of the bar employees is a vet, but is living out of his car, which was just stolen, so the pair, along with Shammy (Christopher Thornton) decide to help out, reaching out to Katsumoto (Tim Kang) for some assistance.
Written by Neil Tolkin, the episode first aired on 11 October, 2019.
Magnum (Jay Hernandez) is moved off the estate for the weekend because there are guests coming to stay. Unfortunately, it’s all a ruse. The guests, Sam (B.J. Britt) and Lina (Bre Blair) are the spearhead of a mercenary group who is taking over the estate to learn the identity of Robin Masters’ White Knight character, knowing it’s based on an actual person.
They want information about something in the books, and they aren’t above violence and torture to get what they want.
Higgins (Perdita Weeks) and Kumu (Amy Hill) find themselves locked in the wine cellar. Fortunately for them, Magnum comes back to the estate for his Tigers cap, and interrupts. Higgins is able to get him a message but also takes matters into her own hands to organize an escape for her and Kumu.
But when the mercs grab Thomas, Higgins, Katsumoto and the rest will have to try to find a way to rescue him, or will the White Knight be able to figure out a way to escape his captors. And what do they want Magnum for? Who is behind it all? Looks like the start of a new arc for the season!
Woven into the story is the continuing arc of Higgin’s decision on whether to return to MI6 or become Magnum’s partner. In the end, she agrees to stay in Hawaii and become Magnum’s business partner.

Dead Inside was written by Barbie Kligman and it first aired on 18 October, 2019.
While T.C. and Rick help out the NFL’s Aaron Donald recover his stolen tablet, Magnum and Higgins are surprised when Katsumoto comes to the pair for help. It seems there’s evidence missing from an important case, and Katsumoto believes it may be a dirty cop, Richard Johnson (Sharif Atkins).
The pair have twenty-four hours to prove the cop is dirty, or not, and recover the evidence before a killer walks free. Unfortunately, Johnson catches on to the fact that Magnum is investigating him, and tells Thomas to back off.
T.C. and Rick find the tablet culprit but what if Magnum and Higgins are investigating the wrong cop?
The episode also layers out Katsumoto’s character even more, giving him more depth even as he and Magnum struggle to reconnect and establish at least a professional working relationship. Tim Kang gets some great moments, including the climax of the episode.
It’s a fairly basic episode, but Kang shines, and the series remains good fun.
There are more investigations Thursday when I explore more of Magnum P.I. – The Complete Series on DVD, available now from Paramount Canada. Aloha!
