Tonight Season 7 of Murdoch Mysteries continues with this enjoyable episode, that as always entertained, made me laugh, and captivated.
Inspector Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) is testing out some augmentations he’s made to his bicycle by entering a local race, that features some professional cyclists including Major Taylor (Defiance’s Dewshane Williams). Barely has the race gotten underway, when one of the riders tumbles from his bike, sprawling across the dirt race way, dead.
Homicide is suspected, and so begins an investigation that delves into the world of biking and hematology.
I quite delighted in Georgina Reilly’s performance this week. Her character Dr. Grace is wonderfully enthusiastic about her passion for science, she delights in her autopsies, and as well as examining all that she can learn from it. I personally feel that both she and Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy) are fantastic role models for all people, and proving that science is sexy.
While Murdoch, Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) and Crabtree (Jonny Harris) run down clues and leads, Darcy’s younger brother shows up in Toronto, much to Julia’s surprise. It also serves to cause a little jealousy to rear its head in Murdoch, which is highly amusing.
There are tons of wonderful lines this week, and one made me laugh and clap aloud, as a reference is made to a cartoon that is a long ways off from Murdoch’s time. Hilarious!
The thing that most struck me about this episode alongside Grace’s delight over science, Murdoch’s bike, is the beauty of the music. This episode is fantastically scored, and it makes me rather upset that only one volume of music has been released for it so far. The music is simply gorgeous.
As the mystery unravels, and the truth is revealed, both Dr. Grace and Murdoch get some great moments, and the climax, much like the show’s opening allows Yannick to showcase one of his great loves, that of cycling.
I don’t want to give too much more away as trying to solve the mystery as a viewer is part of the enjoyment of the show.
They make use of some gorgeous outdoor locations this week, and it makes me proud to know that the show is shot in and around the city that I have made my home.
While the mystery is clever this week, the interplay between the characters and the relationships they share is what keeps me coming back, and this week is no exception. These characters certainly find their way into our hearts and lives.
Murdoch Mysteries airs Monday nights on CBC, will you be watching?
