Chuck (2010) – Versus the Balcony, and Versus the Gobbler

Chuck (Zachary Levi) is on the verge of (elaborately) proposing to Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) when she relates a story of her parents’ nightmare proposal, just as a mission is delivered their way that sees them on a trip to France to recover a microchip, using a wine-tasting as their cover, with Casey (Adam Baldwin) as their manservant.

Chuck Versus the Balcony was written by Max Denby and first aired on 17 January, 2011. Morgan (Joshua Gomez) suggests that Chuck use the mission, and the backdrop to propose.

Meanwhile, back at the BuyMore, Lester (Vik Sahay), who is revealed to be Canadian, is having love troubles, and gets some help from Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence). And, without surprise, Lester mucks it up spectacularly.

Hilarity ensues, as Sarah rumbles what is going on with Chuck’s proposal, and recruits Morgan to help her instead. All while the microchip needs to be recovered, and dealt with…

Of course, to pull off the perfect proposal, the entire team will have to work together to pull it off, and make sure it happens just right. It’s a great moment, as Chuck and Sarah draw closer, only to have the Agency bust in on the scene and arrest Sarah for treason – using photos from the France mission as evidence.

But its revealed that this is a plan by Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) to establish Sarah as a double agent, so she can go undercover at Volkoff Industries to bring the baddie down, and bring his mom home.

She wants to do this for him, and it’s a great gesture… but will it blow up in their faces?

Chuck Versus the Gobbler puts Sarah (now in a black-haired wig) in Volkoff’s (Timothy Dalton) empire, and Chuck is beginning to worry about her mission.

On the home front, Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) are trying to settle on a baby name.

Written by Craig DiGregorio this episode debuted on 24 January, 2011. We follow Sarah on her journey through Volkoff Industries, hoping that her cover holds, and that she’ll be able to get Frost (Linda Hamilton) out. But who can be trusted, and who’s playing who?

To test her, Volkoff orders her to break one of his associates, Yuri the Gobbler (Mathew Willig) out of prison. He’s called the gobbler because he eats people. She recruits the rest of the team to help him break Yuri out. Chuck goes into the prison, undercover as a prisoner, to assist.

But what is Volkoff’s real motivation for getting Yuri out? And how far will Sarah go to keep her and Frost’s cover in place?

We also get to see Morgan and Alex’s (Mekenna Melvin) relationship progressing, as Morgan debates whether to admit he has fallen in love with her. And how will Casey, her father, take it?

Lots going on, and more to come.

The laughs, romance and spycraft continue next week as I continue my journey with Chuck.
