Hot Docs 2014

It’s that time again!! Hot Docs, alongside Toronto After Dark, is one of my favorite film festivals that Toronto hosts yearly, and I am so looking forward to seeing what’s in store for us this year.

Yes, there are big titles I’m looking forward to seeing, the documentary about Community creator, Dan Harmon, Harmontown, George Takei’s¬†documentary To Be Takei, legendary rocker Alice Cooper in Super Duper Alice Cooper, and the one I am most looking forward to, being a muppet fan and all… I am Big Bird: The Carroll Spinney Story.

But those are the big ones, those I’m sure to enjoy, but I always find myself delighted by the smaller ones, the ones that I’m not quite sure about, but hey, let’s have a look at them anyway.

Even the little blurbs you read may not convey exactly what you’re about to see, and the experience you have isn’t anything like the write-up, but the film touches you in a way you never expected… those are the ones I’m looking forward to.

Browsing through the list, there is a lot of potential, the zombie film – Doc of the Dead, a dancing movie called Living Stars, a wedding photographer revisiting some of his favorite couples years later in 112 Weddings… and that is literally the tip of the iceberg. There will be politics, news, real life, amazing sights, and incredible stories.

Hot Docs represents the best of the best in the world of documentaries, and I’ve never been disappointed by their selection.

In fact, one of my favorite things is browsing through the schedule, and deciding what double feature I’m going to do each night (the paying job still occupies most of my days), and what amazing things I’ll be seeing.

Then of course, you find yourself transported away, and laughing, crying, and smiling, about events and lives you may never have even heard of hours before.

I love a good documentary!

Sue and I will be watching and writing, and telling you all about our side of the festival, but we’d like to hear from you! What are some of your favorite documentaries, what are you seeing at the festival this year if you are going?

You can still order tickets, and browse the films over at the Hot Docs website, check it out here.

Maybe we’ll see you there!

Happy viewing and let the festival begin!!!
